Snowflake array to rows.

I have a field/column 'reactions' in a Snowflake table 'tbl'. The table contains several columns of data and many records. The 'reactions' field is a json array. The json data may have several reaction objects (denoted by 'name') and lists the 'users' which had the reaction(see example array below).

SPLIT. Splits a given string with a given separator and returns the result in an array of strings. Contiguous split strings in the source string, or the presence of a split string at the beginning or end of the source string, results in an empty string in the output. An empty separator string results in an array containing only the source string. The data type of the returned value is ARRAY. Usage Notes¶ The data types of the inputs may vary. If the function is called with N arguments, the size of the resulting array will be N. In many contexts, you can use an ARRAY constant (also called an ARRAY literal) instead of the ARRAY_CONSTRUCT function. Examples¶EDIT (based on your comment about wanting rows, not a concatenated string column): ... When the current row is the very first row in the window frame, there is no preceding row to reference, so FIRST_VALUE() returns a NULL for that row.Semi-structured Data Files and Columnarization. When semi-structured data is inserted into a VARIANT column, Snowflake uses certain rules to extract as much of the data as possible to a columnar form. The rest of the data is stored as a single column in a parsed semi-structured structure. Usage Notes¶ SQL NULL values are skipped when building the result array, resulting in a compacted (i.e. dense) array. Examples¶UNPIVOT. Rotates a table by transforming columns into rows. UNPIVOT is a relational operator that accepts two columns (from a table or subquery), along with a list of columns, and generates a row for each column specified in the list. In a query, it is specified in the FROM clause after the table name or subquery.

October 17, 2022. Solution. Working with semi-structured data sometimes requires adding a row to the table containing such data. Let's take a look at how ARRAY data can be added to a table. CREATE OR REPLACE TABLE TEST_INSERT_INTO_VARIANT (COL1 NUMBER, COL2 VARIANT); As long as the array is numeric this can be done quite easily: The function returns an ARRAY containing the distinct values in the specified column.
